Dr. Dung has encountered cases where women have upstream infections, or the outside of the vagina is dry just because of mistakes when taking care of the private area. Among them, the most common habit is vaginal douching. “All women want their private areas to be clean and fragrant from the inside out, and if they want that, they are willing to douche their “little girl”. This may seem very clean, but it unintentionally makes vaginal infections and damage worse”, Dr. Dung warned.

Dr. Dung used the example of a female patient named TD (32 years old, in Hanoi), who gave birth to her first child at the age of 27, and when she was 30 years old, she wanted to have a second child but never had good news. During this time, Ms. D occasionally suffered from vaginal infections, despite having safe and faithful sex. Every time she gets an infection, she cleans it carefully and takes medicine as prescribed by the doctor, but after a while the infection returns.

This time, when the inflammation became more severe, she went to Dr. Le Thi Kim Dung for examination and was diagnosed with salpingitis. Taking the history, Ms. D shared that due to fear of infection, she often douches her private area, but did not expect this to be the cause of the disease. Dr. Dung advises that this habit causes prolonged inflammation, thereby leading to difficulty having children, and even facing the risk of secondary infertility.

In this case, you must first treat the infection, then change your private hygiene habits and follow a healthy diet and lifestyle. After 6 months, there is still no good news, the couple needs to go to an infertility doctor for intervention if necessary.

According to Dr. Dung, douching is completely different from washing the outside of the vagina when bathing. Washing the outside of the vagina with clean or warm water will not harm your vagina, but douching can lead to many other health problems.

Accordingly, douching will upset the balance of bacteria and natural acidity in the vagina, which can cause the overgrowth of harmful bacteria. This can lead to a yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis.

“There is a very common thing among women: the more infected they are, the more they want to douche because they think this will clean them and cure them quickly. However, this can push bacteria deep inside, causing infection in the uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries, which further aggravates the condition.”, said Dr. Dung.

Doctor Le Thi Kim Dung advises on some private area care measures as follows:

– Wash the outside of the vagina with warm water when bathing or you can also use fragrance-free soap with little foaming agent. In case of sensitive skin or any existing vaginal infection, even mild soap can cause dryness and irritation and should not be used.

– Even washing the external appendages should not be done too often. It is not necessary to wash every time you go to the toilet, you should only wash it when bathing every day. When washing, do not scrub too hard or thoroughly. Any rubbing on the vagina will cause irritation, and in some cases even cause enlargement of the vagina.

– Avoid using tampons, sanitary napkins, powders and scented sprays. These products may increase the risk of vaginal infections.

– When using cleaning solution, pay attention to the pH of the solution. Normally, the pH of all vaginas in general and of organs outside the vagina in particular is only from 3.5 to 5. Therefore, you should choose cleaning solutions with a pH equal to or lower than the above threshold. Choosing a cleaning solution with a low pH will help create a favorable environment to protect the “little girl” and fight bacteria.

– Absolutely do not douche the vagina, especially using the toilet spray to wash your vagina, because the spray is very strong and causes dirt to be pushed deeper inside, causing serious infection. masonry.
